Recently, several new works by women from LACMA's permanent collection were installed in the Modern Art galleries in the Ahmanson Building, Level 2.
In the California art galleries, Ruth Asawa's magnificent Untitled (S.027, Hanging Six Open Hyperbola Forms that Penetrate Each Other, with a Half-Hyperbola at the Top) (1954), a recent acquisition during the 2018 Collectors Committee weekend, is now installed next to a masterpiece by Ed Kienholz, The Illegal Operation (1962).
Nearby are Betye Saar's searing I'll Bend But I Will Not Break (1998), also a recent acquisition from the 2018 Collectors Committee, and Alison Saar's Breach (2016).
These snapshots (taken on a phone) don't do these amazing works justice; be sure to check them out in person the next time you're at LACMA!
