Jazz at LACMA opens its 25th anniversary season with jazz legend Les McCann & Friends. Recipient of the LACMA/LA Jazz Society 2010 "LA Jazz Treasure Award," McCann has recorded more than 50 albums as a leader and collaborated with greats such as Eddie Harris, Gerald Wilson, Ben Webster, and Stanley Turrentine. McCann is best known for his platinum-selling 1969 single "Compared to What." The performance begins at 6 pm on Friday night in the BP Grand Entrance. Bring a picnic, bring your friends, and celebrate the return of Jazz at LACMA!
Sunday, welcome latest special exhibition Agnes Martin. The first retrospective of Martin's work since 1994, this exhibition covers the full range of her work—from her early multimedia experiments to her famous grids and striped canvases. Her style, though restrained, showcases her faith in the expressive power of art as she hoped to instill every painting with "beauty, innocence, and happiness." Come visit the exhibition on the third floor of BCAM.
The Colburn Youth Orchestra, conducted by Maxim Eshkenazy, returns to LACMA for Sundays Live. The 70-member Colburn Youth Orchestra is composed of students ages 13 and above, focusing on classic symphonic works as well as newly commissioned works. The performance begins at 6 pm in the Bing Theater.
