Weekends were made for fun! Friday night, the Dave Tull Quartet performs at Jazz at LACMA with pianist Randy Porter. Bring a blanket, picnic, and friends and enjoy this free outdoor concert out on the lawn. Saturday, members have early access to Living for the Moment: Japanese Prints from the Barbara S. Bowman Collection, featuring over 100 prints of the genre known as ukiyo-e (pictures of the floating world). The exhibition, which spans the Pavilion for Japanese Art and the Ahmanson Building, opens to the public on Sunday.
For more from the collection, see Ritual Offerings in Tibetan Art, which includes objects that were used during ceremonies like religious paintings, manuscripts, and furniture. Closing on Monday, African Textiles and Adornment: Selections from the Marcel and Zaira Mis Collection presents stunning garments and headdresses from around the continent. Tours over the weekend include a full walkthrough of Frank Gehry (a specially ticketed exhibition) at 11 am on Saturday and a survey of twentieth-century Latin American art at 2 pm on Sunday.
Visiting families are welcome to participate in Andell Family Sunday and an art project based on architecture. The free workshop is open to children and parents and takes place from 12:30 to 3:30 pm. Finally, at Sundays Live, pianist Bruce Brubaker takes center stage at the weekly classical music series beginning at 6 pm.
