This weekend at LACMA, we invite you to wander through the mesmerizing, translucent polyester rooms inside Do Ho Suh: 348 West 22nd Street, a replica of the artist’s ground-floor residence from a single New York building, on view through March 30. The corridor, stairs, apartment, and studio are each rendered in a single block of color, with fixtures and appliances replicated in exacting detail. Visitors are welcome to enter the installation on a first-come, first-served basis. Children ages 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. The artwork is a 1:1 scale model replica of the artist's former apartment so the narrow doorways cannot accommodate most wheelchairs or walkers, but the artwork is displayed to encourage exterior viewing from all angles. For more insights on this outstanding immersive installation, join a docent tour on Friday, February 28 at 1:30 pm, free with museum admission.
On Friday and Saturday, from 11 am to 5 pm, we welcome you to bring your friends and family to participate in our free Pop-up Art-making Activities in the Galleries. Simply stop by the Family Welcome Table on the Smidt Welcome Plaza when you visit to find out where we are. Also, on Friday at 1 pm, bring the little ones in your life to Story Time in the Galleries where everyone can enjoy imaginative stories told by our friendly education staff.
On Saturday, February 29 at 9 am, LACMA members get the special opportunity to join Yoga at the Museum, when artist Teresa Flores and certified yoga instructor Rebecca Plevin will explore the artworks on view in BCAM, Level 1 and invite participants to embody creative movements and gestures through yoga. Then at 1 pm at Charles White Elementary School, attend Connections Across Centuries: Rufino Tamayo, Raul Baltazar, and the Ancient Americas, during which museum educator Eduardo Sánchez and local artist Raul Baltazar will discuss artist Rufino Tamayo's incorporation of Mesoamerican art in the creation of modern figures.
