This Weekend at LACMA

December 23, 2016

Enjoy a meal and a drink or two (or three) at Ray’s and Stark Bar this weekend at LACMA before your adventure around the galleries.

While you’re here, discover LACMA’s L.A. Moment. See Los Angeles anew with intimate renderings from L.A.-based artists Toba Khedoori and John McLaughlin, iconic works from the renowned local print workshop Gemini G.E.L., and gifts from artists to LACMA in the multimedia exhibition L.A. Exuberance: New Gifts by Artists.

Then, step into James Turrell’s surreal Breathing Light, a multicolored light installation designed to eliminate the viewer's depth perception. Turrell is considered one of the most important artists of the Southern California Light and Space movement. Breathing Light is one of the artist’s Ganzfeld pieces and is a phenomenal work to experience by yourself or with the whole family.

When you’re done, walk on over to the east side of LACMA for the newly opened exhibition that celebrates 10 years of the Japanese Art Acquisitions Group (JAAG). JAAG was founded by a LACMA donor and major supporter of the arts, and is composed of like-minded individuals who share a desire to bring Japanese art to others. Thank you, JAAG members! We wouldn’t have this breathtaking exhibition without you.

Don’t forget—LACMA’s closed on Sunday, December 25. We’ll be open on Monday with extended hours for everyone to enjoy the rest of the holiday season. From Monday, December 26, through Sunday, January 8, LACMA will be open every day, 10 am–8 pm—including Wednesdays!
