Step into BCAM, Level 3, on Friday afternoon for an in-gallery book launch by artist Carolina Caycedo. The artist will present Serpent River Book, a 72-page accordion-fold artist book that combines archival images, maps, poems, lyrics, and satellite photos with the Caycedo's own images and texts on river bio-cultural diversity, in a long and meandering collage. For more on the artist, check out our latest post on Unframed.
Join art educator Mary Lenihan early Saturday morning for a special gallery course which surveys art of the ancient world and how artists from the next period—the Middle Ages—both drew upon that foundation and took a different path.
On Sunday, get an inside look at the ancient Maya resurrection scene excavated in Guatemala. Join famed archaeologists David Freidel and Michelle Rich as they examine the process of coordinating the restoration of the figurines, and the broader implications of these cultural and artistic treasures. Make sure you check out Ancient Bodies, curated by Rich, before it closes on February 4.
Please note that 6th Street will be closed from La Brea Avenue to Fairfax Avenue on Saturday, January 13, and Sunday, January 14. Plan your visit accordingly.
