It's time to jazz it up this weekend at LACMA! Join us this Friday, May 24 at 6 pm for a special Jazz at LACMA performance by Grammy Award-nominated jazz pianist and composer, Otmaro Ruiz, co-presented by Metro Art. Known for his versatility and virtuosity, the Venezuelan-born performer moved to Los Angeles in 1989 to join the group of great names of the jazz world such as Alex Acuña, Justo Almario, and Abraham Laboriel. While you're here, check out works inspired by blues, jazz, and social and political concerns of the 60s and 70s Black Arts movement in the powerful exhibition, Charles White: A Retrospective, closing Sunday, June 9. For even more insight into White's work, join a docent-led tour of the exhibition on Friday, May 24 at 2 pm, free with museum admission. On Sunday, May 26 from 12:30 to 3:30 pm, bring your friends and family to Andell Family Sundays—The Art of Charles White for artist-led workshops, gallery tours, and activities inspired by the exhibition.
Latin Sounds is finally back this Saturday from 5 to 7 pm! Come spend your Saturday evening setting up a nice picnic spot and dancing to the highly energized tunes of Conjunto Oye!, a salsa band that plays traditional Cuban music brewed with a Puerto Rican flavor. If classical chamber music is more your taste, indulge in the beautiful melodies of the Honors Ensembles from the Colburn School’s Ed and Mari Edelman Chamber Music Institute during this week's Sundays Live concert at 6 pm.
Lastly, on Monday, May 27, celebrate Memorial day at LACMA for free during the Target Free Holiday Monday and enjoy bilingual tours and live music from Salt Petal at 12:30 and 2:45 pm.
Feel the rhythm this weekend and plan your visit today!
