Come live in a material world this weekend at LACMA, during the opening of our new exhibition The Allure of Matter: Material Art from China, this Sunday, June 2. Exclusive member previews run through Saturday, June 1. The exhibition showcases Chinese contemporary artists who have cultivated intimate relationships with their materials, establishing a framework of interpretation revolving around materiality. Their media range from the commonplace to the unconventional, the natural to the synthetic, the elemental to the composite: from plastic, water, and wood, to hair, tobacco, and Coca-Cola. The Allure of Matter includes work by Xu Bing, Cai Guo-Qiang, Lin Tianmiao, Ai Weiwei, and more.

On Friday, May 31 at 6 pm, enjoy the sunset coupled with an electrifying Jazz at LACMA performance by Dwight Trible, known for his vocal virtuosity with musicianship and improvisational skills. Then on Saturday at 5 pm, celebrate the first day of June at Latin Sounds! Set up a picnic spot in Hancock Park to enjoy a free performance by three-time Grammy Award Winner Oscar Hernández. Dancing encouraged!

On Sunday, June 2 at 10 or 11 am, members get an exclusive opportunity to participate in Provoke Tour: Charles White. The tour will explore works in Charles White: A Retrospective which engage in critical issues such as racism, class, gender, war, freedom, human dignity, ecology, and consumerism. From 12:30 to 3:30 pm, bring your friends and family to Andell Family Sundays—Palm Trees, Lamp Posts, & a Boulder, where you can enjoy the great weather on a family-friendly tour of LACMA's outdoor artwork, followed by dancing and art workshops.

Finally, don't miss a special Sundays Live performance in LACMA's Bing Theater at 6 pm on Sunday. The event will celebrate 29 years of classical chamber music concerts and recitals at LACMA with an ensemble of past and present performers, alumni, and emerging musicians.
