This weekend at LACMA, attend an insightful two-day conference on Preserving the City of the Future: Civic and Corporate Los Angeles in the 20th Century; this Friday, June 21 from 9:45 am to 5 pm and Saturday, June 22 from 10 am to 5 pm. The conference will present new research and preservation initiatives concerning historically significant public buildings in Los Angeles in the hopes of raising awareness about L.A.’s civic and corporate architecture. Speakers include Frances Anderton, host of KCRW’s DnA program; architects Barbara Bestor and Kulapat Yantrasast; Linda Dishman, president of Los Angeles Conservancy; historians Alan Hess and Wim de Wit; and designer Louise Sandhaus.
On Friday at 6 pm, Jazz at LACMA continues with a soulful and innovative musical performance by Los Angeles born multi-instrumentalist and composer Danny Janklow. The music plays on with Latin Sounds this Saturday at 5 pm, with trombonist, composer, and arranger Francisco Torres.
Sunday, June 23 from 12:30 to 3:30 pm, come explore LACMA's Primal Palm Garden, and other large outdoor artworks such as Urban Light and Levitated Mass at Andell Family Sundays—Palm Trees, Lamp Posts, & a Boulder. Then at 7:30 pm, LACMA members are invited to an exclusive after-hours tour of The Jeweled Isle: Art from Sri Lanka, on view through July 7. Come explore some 240 works addressing nearly two millennia of Sri Lankan history, including precious decorative objects fashioned from gold, silver, and ivory, and 19th-century photographs documenting Sri Lanka’s extraordinary monuments, scenery, and flora.
