This weekend, LACMA welcomes you to visit Life Model: Charles White and His Students, on view through September 15. Located at Charles White Elementary School, the exhibition celebrates the legacy of Charles White, an artist whose art and activism coalesced during the civil rights movement. In 1965, White began teaching at Otis Art Institute as the first African-American member of the school’s faculty, playing a pivotal role as an empowering teacher and mentor through the work of the students who revered him. The exhibition features works by his former students, including artists Kerry James Marshall, David Hammons, Ulysses Jenkins, Richard Wyatt, Linda Jacobson, Kent Twitchell, Eloy Torres, Judithe Hernández, and more. Attend a special artist-led walkthrough of the exhibition this Saturday, July 20 at 2 pm with artist Linda Jacobson, another former student of Charles White. Also, stick around for the festivities at the Levitt Pavilion summer concert series next door to Charles White Elementary School and stop by the LACMA booth for fun giveaways and kid-friendly art activities from 11 am to 7 pm.

On Friday, July 19 at 2 pm, skip nap time and bring the little ones to Story Time in the Galleries where they can take a fun-filled reading journey inside the Korean art galleries. Then at 6 pm, enjoy a performance by The Swinging Grooving Collective, performing a mix of post-bop, hard-bop, and soul jazz during Jazz at LACMA.

On Saturday at 5 pm, come party with One Global Radio at Latin Sounds for an interactive, exciting, and contemporary show. Lastly, on Sunday, from 12:30 to 3:30 pm, drop by Andell Family Sundays—Stellar Stella for free artist-led workshops inspired by the exhibition Frank Stella: Selections from the Permanent Collection, on view through September 15.
