For the first weekend of October, LACMA dares you to go into the light and explore Mary Corse: A Survey in Light, on view through November 11. Initially trained as an abstract painter, Mary Corse emerged in the mid-1960s as one of the few women associated with the West Coast Light and Space movement, engaging with perception and the possibility that light itself could serve as both subject and material of art. This focused exhibition will highlight critical moments of experimentation as Corse engaged with tropes of modernist painting while charting her own course through studies in quantum physics and complex investigations into a range of “painting” materials. To shed more light on the exhibition, join one of our docent-led tours on Friday, October 4 at 3 pm or Sunday, October 6 at 3 pm, free with museum admission.

On Friday, October 4, First-time Fridays returns for a full day of special perks to guests who are visiting the museum for the first time, including a special gift at the Ticket Office and discounts at the LACMA Store and the LACMA Café. At 6 pm, join us for a special Jazz at LACMA concert with pianist, keyboardist, composer, and arranger Jacob Mann, in conjunction with the Angel City Jazz Festival.

Then on Sunday, we invite you to stop by our booth in the Chinatown hub at CicLAvia—Heart of LA for art-making fun during a special edition of CicLAvia's beloved Heart of LA route, presented by Metro and celebrating UCLA's centennial. Lastly, at 6 pm, enjoy free chamber music at Sundays Live off-site at St. James' in-the-City with Members of The Capitol Ensemble—Phillip Levy and Lucia Micarelli, Ben Ullery, and Eric Byers.
