This weekend at LACMA, come to the museum looking like a masterpiece for our fifth annual, after-hours party DAPPER DAY + LACMA Swinging Soirée on Saturday, January 18 from 7:30 to 11 pm! Swinging Soirée celebrates refined style from yesterday and today, with a dance floor inside the galleries, tunes by DJ Professor Watson, and cash bars serving refreshing cocktails, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages.
Please note that free ticket reservations to Swinging Soirée are now sold out. A standby line will form at 6 pm at the Ticket Office near Urban Light on the day of this event. Guests in the standby line will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis, though unfortunately there is no guarantee of space being made available to guests in this line. For guaranteed entry into the event, purchase a Swinging Soirée Plus ticket. For $25 ($20 for LACMA members), this ticket grants you all-day access to the museum galleries, priority check-in to the event, exclusive lounge and bar access, and a complimentary glass of champagne. Dress to the nines, doll yourself up like a work of art, and join the party!
Bring your little artists in the making to LACMA on Friday and Saturday between 11 am and 5 pm for Pop-up Art-making Activities in the Galleries—a fresh menu of free art activities. Stop by on Friday, January 17 at 1 pm for Story Time in the Galleries. Then on Saturday, visit our gallery at Charles White Elementary School for a Tamayo Inspired Workshop with Artist-in-Residence Raul Baltazar, where Baltazar will use experimental techniques that involve collage, paper-making, piñata, and painting, to create 2-D and sculptural works inspired by the Mexican Oaxacan artist Rufino Tamayo, in conjunction with the current exhibition Rufino Tamayo: Innovation and Experimentation.
On Sunday, drop in anytime between 12:30 and 3:30 pm for Andell Family Sundays—Outdoor Pictures and make your very own camera obscura to photograph images inspired by the exhibition Thomas Joshua Cooper: The World’s Edge, on view through February 2. Lastly, we will be open on Martin Luther King Jr. Day this Monday, with extended evening hours for LACMA members. Explore world-class exhibitions like Betye Saar: Call and Response, Julie Mehretu, Do Ho Suh: 348 West 22nd Street, and more!
