This Valentine's Day weekend, let someone know you love them by bringing them to LACMA! Opening on Sunday, February 16, we invite you to visit Luchita Hurtado: I Live I Die I Will Be Reborn, the first career survey of paintings and works on paper by this multifaceted artist. Prior to 2016, the remarkable breadth of Luchita Hurtado’s eight-decade career was virtually unknown, as her works were kept in storage and out of public view for most of her life. The exhibition will showcase several distinct bodies of the artist's work, including Hurtado’s early forays into abstraction, her consistent use of the body as a subject, her experiments with language, and her recent engagement with issues of environment and ecology. Members receive unlimited access to the exhibition during Member Previews through Saturday, February 15. Also, make sure to grab a ticket to a very special conversation between Luchita Hurtado and Hans Ulrich Obrist, Artistic Director of the Serpentine Galleries, London, as they discuss Hurtado’s career survey on Saturday, February 15 at 2 pm.
On Friday, February 14 at 1 pm, skip nap time and bring the little ones in your life to Story Time in the Galleries in BCAM, where they can go on a reading journey into a world of folk tales and colors. For more hands-on activities, bring them to Pop-up Art-making Activities in the Galleries from 11 am to 5 pm on Friday and Saturday.
Lastly, on Sunday, February 16, stop by between 12:30 and 3:30 pm for Andell Family Sundays—The Art of Julie Mehretu. Get inspired by the monumental, dynamic works in the exhibition Julie Mehretu and create your own masterpieces during the free art workshop. For more insights on the art of Julie Mehretu, join a docent tour on Saturday, February 15 at 2 pm. Fall in love with art this weekend and come see what we have on view!
