This Weekend at LACMA

Add LACMA to your weekend plans for art, film, and music. Friday evening at 6 pm the Greg Porée Group plays at Jazz at LACMA, our weekly, free jazz concert series. Then at 7:30 pm see a free screening of Ghetto Film School Los Angeles in the Bing Theater. The evening includes ten short narrative films, followed by a student filmmaker Q&A with Film Independent at LACMA Curator Elvis Mitchell. And like all weekdays at LACMA, L.A. County residents can visit the galleries for free after 3 pm.

Now on view, Frank Gehry explores the life and work of the world-famous architect. And in Various Small Fires (Working Documents) discover LACMA’s rich history including the story of a dog working as a security guard. Also find Robert Irwin’s site-specific work Mircale Mile as the artist reconsiders the properties of light, material, and color.

Andell Family Sundays challenges kids and parents to make their own recycled art in this weekly, artist-led workshop beginning at 12:30 pm. Check out a conversation between photographer Catherine Opie and writer Bob Colacello at Art Catalogues at 4 pm. And Sundays Live welcomes pianist Frederic Chiu at 6 pm to close out the weekend.
