Opening Sunday, Playing With Fire: Paintings by Carlos Almaraz explores the studio-based works of the artist who first became known through his activism with Los Four and the United Farm Workers. Experience his large-scale paintings that vibrantly depict Los Angeles and beyond—from Echo Park Lake to fiery freeway car crashes to surreal dreamscapes of his imagination.
Also on Sunday, join Playing With Fire curator Howard Fox in conversation with Almaraz’s widow, Elsa Flores. Flores is a noted Chicana activist and collaborated with her husband on the famous mural A California Dreamscape in downtown Los Angeles. She will speak with the curator regarding their marriage and his remarkable career.
