Join us this Friday, March 1 from 9 am to 6:15 pm for the one-day symposium, Expanding Outliers in American Art. This free event, in conjunction with the exhibition Outliers and American Vanguard Art, addresses and amplifies the set of issues related to diversity, difference, and histories of overlooked regionalism. The symposium invites a new generation of early mid-career and emerging scholars to present in a largely untouched subject area, understudied by American art historians. Subjects include African American art within Alabama, the WPA and Hispano tradition in New Mexico, AfriCOBRA and Imagist histories in Chicago, and Native American Pop Art, highlighting and enriching the body of literature on folk, outsider, and untrained artistic practices.
