Enjoy classic California weather and graphic design this weekend at LACMA! Visit West of Modernism: California Graphic Design, 1975–1995, on view through Sunday, April 21. This exhibition explores California graphic design in the late 20th century, a transformational period where designers sought greater autonomy in their work and explored the advances in technology that upended existing design and production processes. Far from the established New York design world, California became a haven for avant-garde designers, a hub of innovation in both discourse and practice. The exhibition features the work of many influential designers including Emigre, Inc., Ed Fella, April Greiman, Rebeca Méndez, Deborah Sussman, and Lorraine Wild. Join a docent-led tour of West of Modernism this Friday, April 19 at 1:30 pm, free with general admission. This Saturday, April 20 at 9:30 am, LACMA Members at the Dual level and above are invited to Art 101—Charles White: A Retrospective. This lecture will provide an overview of White's work and his continuing impact on artists today. At 10 am, make sure to visit the LACMA Ticket Office on Smidt Welcome Plaza to receive a Charles White TAP card, free with any paid general admission ticket to LACMA. This is the first-ever TAP card created in partnership with a museum. LACMA is pleased to offer this rare collectible card featuring Charles White's iconic artwork I Have a Dream to our visitors. Quantities are very limited and are expected to go fast.
