Come have a stellar weekend at LACMA with Frank Stella: Selections from the Permanent Collection, on view through September 15. The exhibition presents a selection of works that represent significant developments in the artist’s career, many of which have not been on public view in over 30 years! Frank Stella (b.1936) has been a pivotal figure in the development of modern art since the 1950s. Working in multiple mediums, Stella has created an extensive body of work that has consistently challenged the conventions of art-making. Over the last six decades, Stella has pushed the boundaries of Abstract Expressionism, helped usher in Minimalism, and blurred distinctions between painting and sculpture, continuously experimenting with new materials, abstract forms, and innovative techniques. For more insight on the artist and his works on view, join a docent-led tour of the exhibition on Friday, July 12 at 1 pm and Saturday, July 13 at 1:30 pm. Also, bring your family and friends to Andell Family Sundays—Stellar Stella on Sunday, July 14, where you can draw inspiration from the exhibition to create your own artwork in artist-led workshops.

On Friday, July 12 at 2 pm, bring the little ones in your life to Story Time in the Galleries, where they'll take a reading journey into a world of folk tales and colors. Then at 6 pm, join us for Jazz at LACMA, for an extraordinary performance by saxophonist and woodwind player Benn Clatworthy and System 6.

This Saturday, July 13, bring the party over to Latin Sounds at 5 pm, where you can dance the evening away with the Los Angeles-based collective Soul Sauce. Then at 7:30 and 8:30 pm, members receive an exclusive opportunity to tour The Allure of Matter: Material Art from China with The Institute for Art and Olfaction, a Los Angeles-based non-profit devoted to education and experimentation with scent.
