Beat the summer heat this weekend and enjoy our cool galleries with even cooler art on view. This weekend, we welcome you to join us for Art Days of Summer—Family Workshop on Friday, August 16 from 12 to 3 pm where you can enjoy the last days of summer vacation making handmade books with artist Jenny Ziomek, inspired by the exhibition Beyond Line: The Art of Korean Writing. Then at 6 pm, enjoy Jazz at LACMA, a free concert series with a special performance by Southern California trumpet virtuoso, Gilbert Castellanos.
On Saturday, August 17 and Sunday, August 18 from 11 am to 6 pm, get ready to go bananas for the return of Ben Klevay's She Chimp at the LACMA Store. Klevay designed our new line of apparel and will paint 10 custom signs each day that will feature personalized text. On Saturday at 5 pm, head over to Latin Sounds and dance the evening away to lively Afro-Cuban salsa and Latin jazz performed by the electric violinist and vocalist Susie Hansen. Then, from 7:30 to 8:30 pm and 8:30 to 9:30 pm, LACMA members get the exclusive opportunity to experience the allure of scent during an aromatic tour of The Allure of Matter: Material Art from China led by The Institute for Art and Olfaction (IAO).
Then on Sunday, if you're planning to participate in CicLAvia—Meet the Hollywoods, make sure to stop by the LACMA booth for art-making fun. Lastly, from 12:30 to 3:30 pm, join us for Andell Family Sundays—The Art of Korean Writing, a family-friendly event featuring artist-led workshops inspired by the calligraphy in Beyond Line: The Art of Korean Writing. We hope to see you this weekend!
