Islamic Art Now, Part 2: Contemporary Art of the Middle East opens on Sunday with a member preview on Saturday beginning at 10 am. Ten years ago, LACMA began acquiring contemporary works by artists from or connected to the Middle East, and both parts one and two of Islamic Art Now seek to build links between the past, present, and future of Islamic Art. The exhibition is on the fourth floor of the Ahmanson Building.
Sundays Live features the Crossroads Orchestra, directed by Alexander Treger. The chamber ensembles from the Elizabeth Mandell Music Institute at the Crossroads School for Arts and Sciences will perform works of Mozart, Nielson, and Bartók. The event is free and open to the public, beginning at 6 pm in the Bing Theater.
In conjuction with special exhibition Frank Gehry (on view through March 20), Gehry will be joined by Arnold J. Lewis Science Library at Princeton and consideration of the needs of the users of his buildings. The conversation begins at 2 pm in the Resnick Pavilion. Standby tickets will be available one hour before the event.
